Assistant Music Director
Job Classification: Musical
Business Title: Assistant Music Director
Reports To: Music Director of the Chorus
Schedule: Part-time: (4-6 hours per week)
Location: San Francisco
Responsibilities
The candidate will report to the Music Director of the Chorus, and will have the primary responsibility to lead/run rehearsals for both GGMC and Counterpoint (our small ensemble subgroup) when the Music Director is not available. When the Music Director leads rehearsals, this candidate will attend rehearsals, and assist the Music Director when required. The candidate will participate in scheduled chorus rehearsals, performances, retreats, and other musical activities. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with chorus auditions and recruitment.
This is an opportunity to help shape the musical excellence and community presence of one of San Francisco’s leading choruses.
Experience and Education
This position requires:
• Music degree from an accredited program (required)
• Demonstrated choral conducting proficiency
• Experience with keyboard accompaniment for rehearsal and performance (preferred)
• Leadership and interpersonal skills
• Ability to motivate and foster / mentor chorus members
About GGMC
The Golden Gate Men's Chorus is a select group of singers representing the ethnic and social diversity of San Francisco, who share a common appreciation of choral music. The GGMC presents Spring, Summer, and Winter programs annually, in addition to guest and community benefit performances throughout the year. The goals of the Golden Gate Men's Chorus are to: Strive for musical excellence, provide a productive social fellowship for its members, and present the rich tradition of world choral music to the broad and diverse components of the San Francisco Bay Area communities.
